For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another. Psalm 75:6-7 

How easy it is for us to turn our eyes away from the Lord and place our faith in our own strength or that of another human being.

God puts down those who trust in themselves. Self-confidence has its place of value in all human endeavours but over-confidence in human ability is arrogance. This kind of arrogance reveals itself when we presume that we have:

•Power to fight your own battle: We look at all the knowledge and skills we have built up and boldly step out in our own strength.

• Power to reach high heights by yourself: We trust in our contacts or negotiating skills to propel us to our lives' dreams and goals.

• Power to make yourself known: We trumpet our own success and generally show off our achievements. When we approach life with this attitude, God will bring us down to our real level.

However, when we come before the Lord with humility, acknowledging His sovereignty over all human affairs, He extends His favour towards us. True promotion comes from God. He is committed to the lifting up of His people.

In the Bible, there are several records of individuals that God promoted. Joseph, David, Daniel, Esther were all promoted by God.

Contrary to all human logic, these individuals emerged and rose higher against more preferred people. From the human standpoint, they were disadvantaged but from God's standpoint, they were favoured. Do you want to rise up high in life? Let God lift you.

Prayer: Lord, give me a humble heart that totally trusts You for promotion.
